GET INVOLVED

There are many ways to get involved with our mission to improve the quality of life for all Mainers!

Newsletter: Sign up for our newsletter to received info on upcoming events, kindness tips, articles, stories of Acts of Kindness and more! Click here to subscribe.

Potlucks: Hosting a kindness potluck is a fun meaningful way to connect with family, friends, neighbors or co-workers. We will provide you with guidance and may be able to provide a volunteer to help you with the event. We'll be holding a fun training session this fall, which will be a kindness potluck for all the volunteers who will be hosting their own! Click here for more info.

Book groups: We will guide you in leading a Kindness Book Group at your local library and will do the organizational work with the library, if you'd like. Click here to see some fantastic kindness books you can use.

Workplace kindness: AOK Maine is available to hold a kindness workshop or lunchtime discussion at your workplace. This can be a one-time event or the start of ongoing workplace kindness activities. Click here for articles about kindness in the workplace.

Senior workshops: We will train you to run a kindness workshop for seniors through our partnerships with Southern Maine Agency on Aging and Avesta Housing. These are no more than an hour long and quite simple to run, focusing on creating space for seniors to share stories of how kindness has impacted their lives. Click here to listen to one of our workshops where seniors shared stories of everything from tough love to forgiveness to apologies offered years after harm was done.

Community Kindness Committees: We are aiming to create local Community Kindness Committees throughout Maine. A statewide initiative like this has never been done before! Click here for more info, including links to "Compassionate Cities" around the U.S., including the country's first local "Secretary of Kindness."

Common Ground Fair: Come help out at our booth! We’ll be conducting a kindness scavenger hunt, displaying books on kindness, offering a "Spin the Wheel of Kindness" activity for people to choose their Act of Kindness for the day, week, month or year, giving away blank thank-you cards, collecting audio and video stories about acts of kindness in people’s lives, and explaining how people can get involved with AOK Maine.

Adult Education: Besides participating in one of our courses, we also welcome volunteers who’d like to lead a course, either using one of our formats or creating your own. Learn more here.
